Robert Farmer - Biography
Robert Farmer served on the Energy Advisory Committee of the Governor's Commission for a Sustainable South Florida (1996-97) and more recently was a consultant on Florida's Energy Future, a report for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (2003).
He is an energy systems planning engineer, an experienced engine sales executive, and an accomplished public speaker on energy issues with a particular interest in community power systems for the 21st century. A research specialist with a keen engineering interest in the drivers (the trends, choices, barriers, and solutions) for a sustainable energy future, his expertise and insights have been called upon by many organizations to help them "raise the bar in terms of where we're heading."
A British-born Canadian, Robert was educated as a planning engineer by Bristol-Siddeley Engines/Rolls-Royce Gas Turbines Ltd. in the United Kingdom. He has over 30 years experience in sales and marketing management, application engineering, project engineering, and service management in the engine power industry in North America. His technical expertise includes energy efficient, large to small-scale power generation, combined heat and power (CHP), marine, surface transportation, and alternative energy applications.
In a parallel career with the NGO Third Planet (www.thethirdplanet.org), he is an accredited observer to the meetings of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and was an accredited delegate to the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Robert is a member of the Climate and Energy Specialist Working Group of the World Conservation Union's Commission on Environmental Law (IUCN CEL CESG), and former member of the Board of the Tallahassee-based Legal Environmental Assistance Foundation (LEAF) www.leaflaw.org. He is also a member and science advisor of the Southeast Air Coalition for Outreach (SEACO), an initiative of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
